Two high school students walking near a pedestrian crossing on a national highway in Okayama City were hit by a passenger car and died, and police arrested a 46-year-old man who was driving the car and are investigating the situation in detail.

Around 1:30 am on the 5th, two men and women walking near the pedestrian crossing were hit by a passenger car at the intersection of the national highway at 4-chome, Aoe, Kita-ku, Okayama.



According to police, both of them were second-year high school students in Minami-ku, Okayama City, Yuki Kondo (17) and Yakoto Shimizu (16), who were taken to the hospital but were soon confirmed dead.



Police arrested Koji Sato, a 46-year-old office worker in Minami-ku, Okayama, who was driving a car, on suspicion of lethal accidental driving.



Sato admitted the charges, stating, "There is no doubt that he hit a person."



The site is a straight road with good visibility with two lanes on each side, and there is a pedestrian crossing with a traffic light nearby, and police are investigating the detailed situation of the accident.
