A body discovered near Nice, not linked to the floods according to the prefecture

The mayor of Belvédère, one of the municipalities hard hit by the exceptional floods that affected the Alpes-Maritimes on Friday, believed for a moment to have to deplore the first confirmed death of these bad weather.

But the death of an elderly lady, whose body was found on Sunday at her home, is not related to the floods, authorities say.

After verifications, it was established that "this is a person who fell at home" and her death therefore has "nothing to do with the events," said a spokesperson for the prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes

At midday, the many rescue services engaged in the valleys of Tinée, Vésubie and Roya, were still looking for the eight officially missing people and ten others "who have not given any news".
