China News Service, Hong Kong, October 3. Yang Runxiong, the Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said in a meeting with the media on the 3rd that the Special Administrative Region Government is actively discussing with the Mainland to allow some cross-border students to return to Hong Kong for classes first.

The new crown pneumonia epidemic has made it impossible for Hong Kong and the mainland to resume normal personnel exchanges. The problem of cross-border students going to school between Shenzhen and Hong Kong every day has attracted social concern.

When the Hong Kong school resumed classes in June this year, the SAR government had arranged for cross-border students from Form 3 to 5 to return to Hong Kong to attend classes. The students would travel between the two places through specific customs clearance ports, and they had to hold the SAR government to issue to each cross-border student. Certifying letter and valid COVID-19 negative results within 7 days.

As the local epidemic in Hong Kong eases again, all primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Hong Kong have resumed face-to-face classes on September 29, temporarily taking half-day classes, but cross-border students have not resumed classes.

Yang Runxiong said that the SAR government understands the current difficulties faced by cross-border students and is also actively discussing with the Mainland, especially Shenzhen, to allow some students to return to Hong Kong to attend classes first.

He said that this will depend on the epidemic situation in the two places and other epidemic prevention measures before deciding the next step.

Yang Runxiong said that in the past few days, he learned from the school or the principal that the school resumption arrangements were generally smooth.

The SAR government will continue to monitor the situation and decide when to resume full-day classes depending on the development of the epidemic and when other measures are further relaxed.
