With the issue of global warming, that sky is clearer than that of aeronautics.

The French state has just submitted the official candidature of Toulouse to host, in place of Reading (United Kingdom), the European Center for Medium-Term Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), forced to go into exile because of Brexit.

If the operation is successful, Toulouse, already the cradle of Météo-France, can hope to permanently receive “between 150 and 250 experts” of the climate, and their families.

The ECMWF, "the world leader in numerical weather prediction", is an intergovernmental and independent organization.

It combines a research institute and an operational service for climate data and monitoring of meteorological phenomena.

A favorable microclimate

“For Toulouse, this means in particular hosting services from Corpernicus - a European program for the space observation of the Earth - which monitor air quality and climate change, while the European ocean monitoring service, Mercator Océan is already established in Toulouse, ”said Toulouse metropolis in a press release.

Not to mention the entire ecosystem of the space industry.

The final choice must be made before the end of the year.

Until then, Toulouse and its region are crossing their fingers that the winds are favorable to them.
