  • The MagicBus company, based in Fenouillet, wants to embark travelers off the beaten track, in a former school bus converted into a traveling youth hostel.

  • It is the eight travelers who determine the route, only the departure and arrival are scheduled.

  • The first road-trip begins this weekend in Ariège.

An itinerant trip in a bus fitted out as a hotel with a flexible route according to everyone's wishes.

This is the funny concept launched by the Toulouse-based company MagicBus, a youth hostel installed in a bus allowing to carry out a road-trip whose route is decided by its travelers.

The first trip must take place on the weekend of October 3 and 4, in Ariège.

Because if the initial idea of the founder of MagicBus, located in Fenouillet, was to offer road trips in Europe, the health crisis has slowed down her plans, forcing her for the moment to devote herself to trips in the Hexagon and reduce their duration from a week to a weekend.

Layout of an old school bus

Lisette Abadie, holder of a diploma in interior architecture and scenography, had the idea to create MagicBus after several trips.

“At the age of 20, I traveled for four months in New Zealand, where I tested different ways of traveling, such as hitchhiking, youth hostels or the van and I visited reckons that each had advantages and disadvantages, says the 27-year-old.

This bus is a bit of a mix of everything that allows you to travel with several people, to go where you want and to meet other people ”.

MagicBus has been designed for the comfort of eight travelers.

After looking for an American bus, the Toulousaine finally bought for 8,000 euros an old school bus from Charentes Maritimes.

It took about six months of work to make it a cozy accommodation, able to accommodate eight people.

She will also be behind the wheel.

To do so, Lisette Abadie had to pass her truck license and perfect her knowledge of mechanics.

First weekends in Ariège in October

As reservations are weekly, only the departure and arrival points are programmed.

It is the travelers who therefore decide together their routes and stops.

“I do both transport, travel agency and accommodation so it was administratively complicated to set up the project, laughs Lisette Abadie.

The first travel reservations were launched in August but given the complicated health situation, I am currently offering weekends.

The privatization of the bus is also possible.

Next year, I'm planning road trips through the Swiss Alps, Austria, Italy and Slovenia ”.

Four weekends are already scheduled in October and four one-week trips are expected to start in November.
