It is a phenomenon of rare violence which is likely to fall on the French coast this night.

Storm Alex is expected to hit a large part of southern Brittany, from Finistère to Loire-Atlantique.

This Thursday, Météo-France even placed the Morbihan department on red alert to strong winds.

Announced since Wednesday, the storm should bring winds flirting with 160 km / h, according to data communicated by Météo Bretagne.

The first strong gusts are expected around midnight overnight from Thursday to Friday and should increase in intensity.

Since its creation in 2001, the “red vigilance” maximum vigilance plan for strong winds has only been triggered six times.

The last alert dates back to December 2018 in Corsica.

The last time France had suffered such violent winds was in 2017 when Zeus passed.

Meteorologists' forecasts rank Storm Alex one degree below that of 1999, which left tens of people dead and thousands injured.

SNCF has already announced that its TGV lines between Rennes and Quimper would be interrupted from 4 a.m. to noon on Friday.
