  • Huesca Congress. Journalists who wrote about the virus in January speak: "I thought that if this got out of hand it would change the world"

In 2014 the podcast began to generate interest, thanks to the American audio series

Serial

.

From there, it has been gaining more and more popularity, to the point that this year,

the well-known Pulitzer Prizes have added the category of

podcasting

.

The XXI Congress of Journalism of Huesca

, which is being held this week electronically, has wanted to focus on this new tool that is characterized by being able to be heard

how, where and when the listener wants

.

The videoconference, moderated by

Núria Jar

, co-director of the

5W Podcast

, was also attended by

Pablo Romero, Silvia Viñas and Carola Solé

.

"Three years ago

an earthquake

occurred

in Mexico

, and we thought about doing a program for just a few days," Viñas, executive producer of new podcasts on

Radio Ambulante

, has begun by explaining

.

"I could feel that adrenaline when I had so little time to spare," he stressed.

Immediately afterwards, the journalist

Pablo Romero

, editor of Cibersociedad y Defensa in the newspaper

Público

, reviewed his project

The Three Deaths of My Father

, for which he received the

Ondas Award for Best Podcast

in 2018

.

It deals with the investigations carried out by the journalist into the ETA attack that in June 1993 cost his father his life.

"I hadn't planned to create something like that,

I started to publish my research in EL MUNDO and

El Español

to gather more information," Romero recalls.

With this podcast, made up of five chapters of 20 minutes each, he intends to make known "the neglect of institutions at times".

"ETA continues to be used as a weapon thrown by politics," he explained.

Lastly, Carola Solé, author of the podcast 'Volver, five stories about the Catalan crisis' in

Podium Podcast

,

spoke

: "I was a correspondent in Latin America for a long time, and once I returned to my homeland after 10 years

I realized what Catalonia looked little like how it had left it "

, Solé commented.

This project has testimonies from independentistas and non-independentistas, as the journalist has highlighted.

"In polarized times it is very difficult to listen to each other, and with the podcast I thought I could convey that idea," she concluded.

POSTPRODUCTION AS A DIFFERENTIATING FACTOR

During the debate, various topics were addressed, such as the optimal duration of the podcast.

"It has a similar operation to literature in terms of narrative", Solé has highlighted.

"The duration depends on the content that you want to make known,"

Viñas explained.

To which Romero has said that in his case he thought of giving his podcast "a format similar to television series."

Finally, it has been ensured that, unlike traditional radio, the podcast requires greater prior preparation, both pre-production and post-production.

Despite this, one of the ideas they wanted to convey is that both

"should stop seeing themselves as enemies

.

"
