  • The number of Covid-19 infections is decreasing and hospitalizations are stabilizing.

  • This improvement could continue if the recent measures ordered by the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes prove to be effective.

Is the resumption of the Covid-19 epidemic being stopped in the Alpes-Maritimes?

If it is too early to be categorical, the latest figures published by the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur Regional Health Agency (ARS) are rather encouraging.

The incidence and positivity rates are finally falling.

After seven weeks of increases, and peaking at above 150, the incidence rate (the number of people who test positive per 100,000 people) has declined in recent days, falling below 90.

This rate was particularly high for the 20-40 age group until the end of August, and has now fallen sharply, falling below the 100 mark.

6.6% "positivity"

The positivity rate fell to 6.6% in the Alpes-Maritimes, its lowest level for three weeks.

Across the Paca region as a whole, this rate drops to 7.4% and falls below the national average (7.6%).

Hospitalizations are stabilizing.

There are currently 120 people hospitalized with Covid-19 in the department, or 21 less in a week.

The number of serious patients admitted to the intensive care unit is 16 (+2 in one week).

These data are essential in the current strategy, which consists in maintaining a hospital capacity for scheduled activities, as recently confided to

20 Minutes

by Doctor Eric Cua, infectious disease specialist at the University Hospital of Nice: “during the first wave we had everything devoted to Covid.

We had deprogrammed all possible interventions.

Today, we are organizing to welcome patients with Covid-19 and all the others.

"

Effect of measures taken from September 10?

The inversion of the curves could be the translation of the first “more restrictive” measures decided by the prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes three weeks ago, which corresponds to the time limit for observing the effects, taking into account the incubation period of the illness and time to compile data.

She had ordered bars and restaurants to close at 1 a.m. on September 10, then snacks and grocery stores four days later.

The “turn of the screw” of September 22 followed with a series of new measures: ban on gatherings of more than ten people in public spaces, major “cultural, festive and sporting” events limited to 1,000 visitors, take-away sales of alcohol and its consumption on public roads prohibited after 8 p.m., outdoor music prohibited to avoid gatherings.

These last measures, if they prove to be respected and effective, should produce their effects in the coming days.
