Three Gorges University responds to "Japanese teaching PPT discriminates against women": classes have been suspended and are being processed

On September 30, a netizen posted that a PPT for a fun Japanese elective course by a teacher at Three Gorges University contained a lot of content that discriminated against women.

Relevant staff of the Propaganda Department of the Three Gorges University Party Committee responded to The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) saying that the course had been suspended and that the incident was being further investigated.

The pictures posted by netizens show that the PPT page links the pronunciation and glyphs of the Japanese syllabary to discriminatory content against women.

For example, "What else can you do if you want to force a woman with a knife?...so read me."

Screenshots from the Internet show that some students from the school said they have dropped out of the class and hope that the teacher's courseware can be normal and not to treat vulgarity as fun.

The teacher suspected of the incident responded to the students’ questioning in the group chat, saying, “The biggest purpose of the image memory method is to remember what you want to remember in the shortest time.”

A student who claimed to have taken the course as an elective told Peng Mei News that the course involved was an elective course and the teachers were teachers of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture.

"The school has suspended this class and is actively handling it."

On the afternoon of the 30th, the relevant staff of the Propaganda Department of the Three Gorges University Party Committee responded to the surging news saying that the school had paid attention to the incident before.

After the teacher involved started the first class in late September, the school received feedback from the students and immediately notified the Academic Affairs Office to suspend the teacher’s course.

Currently, the school is still investigating the incident further.

According to the content published on the official website of the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of China Three Gorges University in June 2014, the aforementioned teacher has been a lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture of China Three Gorges University since December 2006. His courses include "Interesting Japanese" and so on.

According to the official website of China Three Gorges University, China Three Gorges University is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and the People's Government of Hubei Province, and is a university under the "Outstanding Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education.
