Dog owners in Saudi Arabia can now enjoy a cup of coffee outside the home with their pets, following the opening of a cafe in the eastern city of Khobar, the first to allow these animals in the Kingdom.

The "parking lot" cafe, which opened last June in the coastal city, has become a haven for dog lovers in a country that does not have many locations where pets can be taken outside the home.

In recent years, several shelters for animals have appeared in different Saudi cities.

Adopting stray animals has grown in popularity in the kingdom, which is undergoing widespread social change.

The development of the tourism and entertainment sectors is one of the foundations of the "Vision 2030" project, which aims to prepare the largest Arab economy for liberation from complete dependence on oil wealth.

The owner of the café - a young Kuwaiti named Dalal Ahmed - says that the idea of the café came to her when she visited the kingdom years ago with her dog, and was unable to walk with him.

"I came to Saudi Arabia to visit with my dog, but I was not allowed to walk with him on the beach," she told AFP.

It was strange ».

"This situation made me sad," she added.

And I decided to help by opening a nice café for people, whether they are dog owners or not, to enjoy this place. ”

Boys and girls gather in the café to play with dogs of different sizes.

While other dogs sit near their owners to play.

There is another section in the café dedicated to "Dalal" dogs that provides various services to animals, including washing and caring for their appearance.

"The idea of the café is very new," said the young Saudi woman, Johara.

We don't have many places like this.

Dogs come here to socialize. ”

The young Saudi man, Nawaf, came to the cafe for the first time, describing it as a "beautiful" place.

"The first time I saw a coffee shop in Saudi Arabia that was dedicated to dogs like this," the young man asserts.
