After the failed meeting with the Community of Madrid, the Minister of Health,

Salvador Illa,

accompanied

Fernando Simón,

director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies,

in his regular appearance on Mondays

, and insisted from La Moncloa that the arguments that support the position of the central government respond to an "epidemiological struggle", and not an "ideological" one.

"I'm going to talk to you about data and science," Illa started his speech.

"I am not going to speak as a politician, but as a Minister of Health

and a concerned person," he announced, and listed the arguments that, according to his Department, force the Community of Madrid to tighten its measures against the epidemic immediately.

"We are already late, we must act with determination," he exhorted.

"Madrid has communicated 13,449 more cases since Friday, it

is the highest number of notifications

in the Autonomous Community of Madrid in this second wave, 1,458 more cases than the previous weekend," Illa said.

"In this last week, the autonomous community has had 223 deaths, the previous one had 180 deaths," continued the minister.

The next data he wielded was that the region chaired by Isabel Díaz Ayuso presents "about 40%" of infections in the country as a whole.

In addition, he pointed out that the

rate of positivity of the PCR

that are done - "that many are done, it is true", he clarified - is 20.7%, "almost double what we have in Spain."

"This is data," stressed Illa, who concluded his review of the figures by recalling that

"in Madrid there is community transmission,

as we have already been saying."

Finally, he warned that the upward trend continues: "The pandemic has not been taken under control, because we see how it

is increasing week by week."

After being asked if the limit of 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days to take more drastic measures is

applicable to the entire national territory,

as requested by the Community of Madrid, Illa ruled out that option.

The incidence cannot be valued the same, he reasoned, in small municipalities, where this parameter is triggered with few cases, than in areas with a high population density.

"We have always said that

a set of indicators must be assessed,"

the minister insisted, also referring to the possibility of controlling -or not- outbreaks and hospital pressure, all of which must be assessed "together."

The Community of Madrid had made, hours before, a different assessment of its situation, noting that

the rate of increase of new admissions in hospitals has fallen by 66%

in the last week, while the rate at which patients grow in intensive care has dropped 11% in that same time.

At the request of the press, Fernando Simón analyzed the discrepancy: "It is true that the increase in pressure is

perhaps less strong, but it continues to increase,

both in hospital occupancy and ICU occupancy, as well as in the number of cases."

The Health spokesperson concluded that "the micro data can speak in some sense, but the generic data of the Community, of course, do not show the same trend. It is true that

in some points there may be relief,

just as in others it can be increasing the transmission ".

In any case, the aforementioned slowdown in the increase in admissions did not prevent that, according to the latest Health data, the

percentage of occupied hospital places

increased again yesterday in the Community of Madrid, both in total beds (25.96% , compared to 25.43% on Friday), as in the ICUs (from 40.12% to 41.18%).

In other words, the pressure is high and, although more slowly, it grows.

THE DATA MADRID OFFERED ...

66% FALL

Madrid reported that it has gone from 591 Covid admissions in the week of September 14 to 20 to 264 in the week of 21 to 27.

11% LESS INCOME IN ICU

In these last two weeks, Madrid assures that ICU admissions have fallen by 11%.

8.6% LESS CASES ON WEEKEND

Madrid has also experienced a drop in new revenue over the weekend.

... AND THOSE THAT THE GOVERNMENT GAVE

13,000 NEW CASES

The minister stressed that the "truth" is that the pandemic does not remit in Madrid, with 13,000 more cases since Friday.

40% OF THE TOTAL

Those 13,000 cases are 1,700 more than a week earlier, so that Madrid accounts for almost 40% of the cases in Spain.

21% PCR POSITIVE

Fernando Simón explained that PCR positivity is 21% in Madrid, almost double that of 11% of the average in Spain.
