On Tuesday, September 29, the memoirs of American singer and actress Mariah Carey The Meaning of Mariah Carey (one of the versions of the translation of the title into Russian is “To be Mariah Carey”) will be released in the USA.

In the book, the artist told the story of her life and her development, shared her memories of childhood, relationships, colleagues and much more.

“This book contains my memories, my difficulties, my struggle, my story of overcoming and my songs.

Without embellishment.

I plunged deep into my childhood and gave a powerful voice to the little frightened girl inside me.

I gave an abandoned and purposeful teenager the opportunity to speak out, and to the deceived but triumphant woman that I became - to tell her story, ”reads the book's annotation.

According to USA Today, the memoir contains many shocking facts about Mariah Carey's childhood.

The artist, who was born to a white mother and a black father, claims that from an early age she was regularly faced with manifestations of racism.

Carey recalls that the teachers at the preschool reprimanded her because she chose the wrong pencil colors to draw her family.

The singer also tells how she played one of the main roles in the production of Fiddler on the Roof as a child.

At the end of the performance, her father handed her flowers.

Carey writes that everyone was amazed to see him.

“I received thunderous applause and flowers, but in this circle I was no longer given major roles in productions,” the USA Today singer quotes.

Excited to share a small glimpse of a chapter from my memoir #TheMeaningOfMariahCarey.

Coincidentally, it wasn't until after I had written about "Out Here On My Own" in the book, that I found it in the vault while making The Rarities.

Totally meant to be !!

❤️🦋 I hope you enjoy this little story today, and the song when it is out this Friday!

According to Variety, because of her skin color, Carey was criticized even by her brother and sister, who were darker than her.

According to Carey, her first experience with racism was a kind of "first kiss in reverse" for her.

“Every time they pulled out a piece of purity from me.

In its place there was a sprawling stain that had sunk into me so deeply that I could not get rid of it completely, ”the singer writes.

Other memories from Carey's childhood include stories of abuse by her mother and older sister, Alison.

The latter, according to the artist, offered her cocaine and threw a cup of hot tea into her, after which 12-year-old Mariah needed the help of a doctor.

In her memoirs, the singer did not pass by her personal life.

As the Daily Mail notes, many years ago there were rumors of an affair between Carey and American baseball player Derek Jeter.

In the book, the artist confirmed that she was in this relationship, although at that time she was married to music producer Tommy Mottola.

Carey also revealed that two songs from her 1997 album Butterfly (The Roof and My All) are dedicated to her romance with Jiter.

According to Los Angeles Times author Rich Yuzvyak, the singer compares life with Mottola on their New York estate to being imprisoned in Sing Sing.

Carey writes about the constant control by her ex-husband and the emotional abuse she was forced to endure while married.

“His presence was intrusive and overwhelming.

It was impossible to hide from him, ”says Carey.

At the same time, the singer admits that she owes much of her career to Mottola.

He took a risk when he signed with her and helped with the recording of the Christmas album.

Speaking about the difficulties she faced at the dawn of her career, Carey recalls how she, then an aspiring singer, was offered $ 5,000 for using her song All in Your Mind in the film.

According to Variety, citing her memoirs, Carey then needed money, but refused the tempting offer.

The singer claims that her songs "came from the depths of the soul, selling them meant selling a piece of yourself."

Carey says that after all she had experienced, she was not going to have children.

However, everything changed after her meeting with musician Nick Cannon.

From him, the singer gave birth to two twins.

Carey tries to give them everything that she herself was deprived of.

“They have many memories of their time with two loving parents.

Their lives were never threatened.

The police never broke into our house.

They live without fear, "- quoted by Mariah Carey Variety.

Also, on the pages of her book, the singer shares her memories of work with many colleagues.

Among them are Cindy Mizell, Aretha Franklin, Alia.

At the same time, Carey paid little attention to the story about her performance with Whitney Houston and did not mention Eminem at all, communication with whom influenced the work of both performers.

Mariah Carey also writes about her obsession with Marilyn Monroe.

Among other things, she told how she bought a piano, which previously belonged to the mother of the legendary actress.

“The centerpiece of my luxury penthouse in Manhattan, my pride is the white grand piano Marilyn Monroe,” USA Today quotes from the book.

The singer said that she had to work daily to restore her emotional state after traumatic events from childhood, "toxic" relationships and other life problems. At the same time, Carey notes that she always has where to draw strength from. Her main sources are faith in God and the love of her fans.
