Ihsanoglu stressed - in an interview with the episode (9/29/2020) of the "Beyond the News" program - that Armenia is obstructing peace in the region despite its claim to the contrary, calling on Armenia to leave the Azerbaijani lands it occupies, which are 7 Azerbaijani cities in addition to the Nagorno region. Karabakh, a land that the whole world recognizes as Azerbaijani.

For the third day, the fighting continues between Azerbaijan and Armenia, against the background of the conflict over the Nagorno Karabakh region.

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Baku of preparing to expand what it called its hostile military operations, and condemned what it described as Azerbaijan's steps to destabilize the region.

On the other hand, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Armenian forces tried to advance towards the Azerbaijani sites in the fronts of Fuzuli and Gabriel, before the Azerbaijani forces confronted them, destroyed 4 tanks, and predicted about 10 soldiers were killed or wounded, and forcing them to retreat.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called on Azerbaijan and Armenia to cease fire, and urged their presidents to calm tensions and return to negotiations.

A call that supports Moscow's call to all its partners, especially Turkey, to do its utmost to persuade the warring parties in Nagorny Karabakh to cease fire and return to what it called a peaceful settlement by political and diplomatic means.

Turkey, for its part, confirmed through its Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu that the only solution to the problem of Nagorno Karabakh is the withdrawal of Armenia from the Azerbaijani lands it occupied.

As for Iran - the third neighbor concerned with the fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan - it confirmed that it is closely and anxiously following the tension in Nagorny Karabakh, and pledged to do everything it can to achieve peace between Baku and Yerevan.

For his part, Professor of International Relations at the American University in Armenia, Hovhans Nikogosian, considered that the current confrontation between the two countries is the worst in a while, indicating that the war is gradually expanding, accusing Azerbaijan of targeting civilians directly.

Nikogosian added that Turkey joined the war on the side of Azerbaijan by providing air support and supplying F-16 fighters, which heralds the expansion of the confrontation.

On the other hand, the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijani Trend News Agency, Hafizoglu, denied that Turkey had supplied F-16 planes to Azerbaijan, and that Armenia had shot down any of them.

Ihsanoglu explained that Armenia itself does not recognize the independence of the Nagorno Karabakh region, and there is no country in the world that recognizes its independence, including Iran, which supports Armenia.

Russia and oil

For his part, Professor of International Conflicts at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies Ibrahim Fraihat said that the matter for Azerbaijan is to occupy some of its lands since 1994, which has put pressure on it due to the lack of a political solution, considering that the peace process that has continued since then did not present anything and failed. The group that fosters peace led the United States to find a solution to the conflict over 25 years.

Fraihat confirmed that many regional parties are interfering in this conflict, recalling Turkey's declaration from day one to support Azerbaijan, while Iran supports Armenia.

Fraihat said that the Turkish-Russian conflict is not far from this conflict, noting that the oil factor is also important in the conflict, as Azerbaijan exports oil to Turkey via Georgia, before Turkey transfers it to Europe, which poses a danger to Russia, which is trying to block this line so that it can Of exporting its oil to Europe.

Once again, Professor of International Relations at the American University in Armenia, Hovhans Nikogosian, reiterated that Azerbaijan, and behind it Turkey, rejects the cease-fire.

Nikoguzyan attributed the failure to reach an agreement over the past years to the fact that Azerbaijan was "always jumping out of the political process and negotiations," he said.
