The Caesars are an institution shaken for many months by accusations of opacity, favoritism, and sexism too, which culminated in the last ceremony when the Caesar for best director was awarded to Roman Polanski, accused of repeated rapes.
The members of the general assembly of Caesar must vote this morning by videoconference to elect their new leadership.
And it is a joint and consensual duo that should be elected, being the only candidate for the leadership.
Véronique Cayla, a 70-year-old woman, and Eric Toledano, a 49-year-old man.
The former director of Arte and the CNC teaming up with the successful director, they then unite their differences to offer a tandem likely to reconcile film professionals.
The task promises to be tough
As soon as their candidacy was announced, the messages of support multiplied.
And this help, they will need it as the task promises to be difficult, and the world of the seventh art deeply divided by accusations of sexism and patriarchal domination.
The controversy, for a time appeased by the collective resignation of the old management, resumed in early September when the list of 182 directors was unveiled.
Because alongside new entrants, elected by their peers, were designated members of rights 18 historical personalities, including the director Roman Polanski, accused of rape on several occasions in recent years.
Faced with the bronca, the filmmaker finally announced that he would not participate in the decisions of the new Academy of Caesar and therefore in the vote on Tuesday.
