He is the main suspect in the chopper attack perpetrated on Friday noon in front of the former premises of Charlie Hebdo but investigators are still questioning his identity.

The man, who claimed responsibility for his gesture during his arrest, introduced himself as Hassan Ali, an 18-year-old Pakistani who arrived in France three years earlier.

But an identity document discovered in his mobile phone casts a blur on his statements: another identity appears there, Zaheer Hassan Mehmood, a 25-year-old Pakistani, learned

from sources close to the investigation, confirming information from the

.

However, this identity document has not yet been authenticated by investigators.

The attacker had indicated when he arrived in the territory - in August 2018 - to be born in 2002 in Islamabad.

He was then taken care of by the Social Assistance for Children of Val d'Oise.

The department, not believing in its minority, had contested its support.

Justice had finally confirmed his care, until his majority on August 10, 2020.

A video on social networks

It is in any case under the identity "Zaheer Hassan Mehmood" that the suspect presented himself in a video that circulated on social networks.

While it is not strictly speaking a video of demands, he condemns the republication by

Charlie Hebdo

of the cartoons.

"Today, Friday September 25, I will condemn them", he adds in Urdu language, without specifying the nature of his gesture.

He says his “guide” is Mullah Ilyas Qadri, leader of Dawat-e-Islami, an apolitical and non-violent religious group of Sufi inspiration, based in Pakistan.

In the background, we hear traditional Pakistani songs.

The custody of the assailant, who accepted his act and admitted having wanted to attack

Charlie Hebdo

, unaware that the editorial staff had moved to a secret place since the 2015 attacks, was extended by 48 hours on Sunday.

Five other police custody are still in progress on Monday: three former roommates of the main suspect in his apartment in Pantin, his little brother and an acquaintance.
