  • A demonstration has been underway since Monday morning at Metz prison.

  • The guards of the penitentiary center demonstrate.

    The object of their anger?

    The use of cameras.

"They are used to sanction us", denounces the regional secretary CGT penitentiary Laurent Leroy.

  • The inter-union also requires less authoritarian management of staff.

The entrance to Metz prison, in the Queuleu district, blocked.

A lit pallet fire.

Guards from the penitentiary center have been demonstrating since Monday morning to denounce "the use of cameras inside the establishment" against them, by the management, explained the intersyndicale (UFAP, FO, CGT, Horizon justice) .

“There is a reversal in the use of cameras.

They were installed to protect the guards.

But they serve to punish us ", denounced the regional secretary CGT penitentiary Laurent Leroy, taking the example of a" door which was not closed "or of a thing which" was not done well " by the caretaker.

Tensions around wearing a mask

The movement also aims to obtain "the application of an agreement already signed on working conditions" and less authoritarian management of personnel, as well as incidentally the withdrawal or reduction of the penalties imposed, in particular for guards. who refused to apply a memo, during and immediately after confinement, prohibiting the wearing of a mask.

Among the cases mentioned by the Horizon justice union was highlighted that of a guard sanctioned for raising his voice to wear a mask.

According to the union, this agent who did not go before a disciplinary committee, had his working hours arbitrarily changed, fell ill with Covid-19 and his wife too.

Maintained walks

“Today the mask is compulsory for us.

But inmates are not allowed to wear one, except for activities with an outside worker.

When the detainees go for a walk, they remain confined for a while in a very small corridor, ”lamented the Deputy Regional Secretary Horizon-justice CFE-CGC Teddy Maniere.

All day Monday, the demonstrators, who demand discussions with the management, plan to block the entrances to the detention center of some 480 places.

The activities requiring external interveners were therefore canceled.

However, walks and other activities were maintained, said the intersyndicale.
