The rate of positive tests increases in France

The number of new positive coronavirus cases recorded its traditional weekend decline, with 11,100 new cases in 24 hours, which is explained by the closure of laboratories, but the positivity rate continues to rise steadily, according to figures from Public health France.

The percentage of infected people among those tested is 7.4%, after 7.2% the day before, and 5.7% exactly seven days ago.

While new restriction measures were announced this week in an attempt to stem the epidemic, 27 people have died in the past 24 hours - up from 39 in the previous 24 hours - bringing the total death toll to 31,727 in France.

Over the last seven days, 4,204 new hospitalizations have been recorded, including 786 serious cases in intensive care.

In Marseille, bars and restaurants now closed

Bars and restaurants closed Sunday in Aix-Marseille.

The government had announced the entry into force on Saturday evening of this measure, strongly contested locally.

Local elected officials finally obtained a postponement of one day after a meeting with the Minister of Health Olivier Véran.

These closures will only be in the cities of Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, according to the prefectural decree published on Sunday.

They therefore do not concern the 90 other municipalities of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis.

The pandemic has killed more than a million people worldwide

The Covid-19 pandemic which started in late 2019 in China before spreading around the world has killed more than a million people, according to an AFP count established on Monday from official data.

More than 32.9 million cases have been officially diagnosed since the start of the epidemic, of which at least 22.5 million are now considered cured.

The United States (nearly 205,000 dead), Brazil (nearly 142,000), India (nearly 95,000) and Mexico (more than 76,000) alone account for more than half of the deaths recorded in the world.

"A million is a terrible number," said the director of emergency situations of the World Health Organization (WHO), Michael Ryan, on Friday, estimating a doubling "very likely". The outlook is bleak, in fact, with a curve that starts to rise again in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, reinforcing fears of a second wave.
