Slovenia in turmoil against corruption

Since April 17, every Friday, thousands of Slovenes have demonstrated in the streets of the capital to protest against the Prime Minister, Janez Janša.

They denounce the authoritarian abuses of a man who has returned to power for the third time.

Twice already, Janez Janša has had to give up his post over corruption scandals.

The demonstrators are also alarmed by the war launched against the media… but the population is divided and the opposition fragmented.

A book in the world

Nicolas Carreau spotted the reissue of Dany Laferrière's 1st novel with the still controversial title 35 years later:

How to make love with a nigger without getting tired

.

The funny and ferocious story of a man, who after buying a typewriter decides to become a writer.

And when he's not writing, he makes love with women, preferably white.

A powerful, irreverent and poetic novel.

The revolt of young Thai people

Every weekend for months now, young Thais have taken to the streets to demand the departure of the Prime Minister.

They no longer want this government of soldiers whom they consider corrupt and demand new elections, a new Constitution and a reform of the education system, currently underfunded and archaic.

The anger is such among the youth that they no longer hesitate to attack the King despite the risk of a 15-year prison sentence for the crime of lese majesté.

Turkey: heritage instrumentalized

It is a decision that caused a lot of noise in the middle of summer: the old Hagia Sophia, emblem of Istanbul, is once again transformed into a mosque.

And she's not the only one.

These transformations are a way for President Erdogan also to erase traces of a history which does not conform to the discourse of the Ottoman conquest.
