First snowfall in the Alps like here in Val Thorens where 30 centimeters of snow fell on September 26th.

Val Thorens

The mercury has dropped dramatically in recent days.

To the point of having to take out the coats and put the bikinis away in the closet.

In the Alps, the mild temperatures, still observed in mid-September, quickly gave way to the first snowfalls from an altitude of 1,200 meters.

Friday and Saturday, the ski resorts of the departments of Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie recorded rainfall of up to 30 centimeters.

And even 50 centimeters above 2,000 meters.

🤭 Snow!

Hikes not recommended in the resort

"Sunday, the snow will be weak and the snow limit will rise to 1,400 meters during the day and to 1,800 meters on Monday with a warming of temperatures", indicates the prefecture of Isère in a press release specifying that "the adapted equipment" is recommended for motorists going to the resort and that "the practice of mountain activities, including hiking" is strongly discouraged.

Snowfall was also abundant in the Pyrenees and the Vosges, where it had not snowed in September since 2002.
