Lebanon extradites Egypt to 3 accused of rape in "Vermont" case

 The Lebanese authorities, through Interpol, handed over three of the suspects in the case of the gang rape of a girl in a hotel in Cairo, famous for the "Vermont" incident, to the Egyptian authorities.


A statement by the Egyptian Public Prosecution stated that it had received notification from Interpol of the arrest of “A.A.” and “A.H.” and his brother, “X,” accused in the incident of assaulting a girl in the “Fairmont Nile City” hotel in Cairo, based on a request from the Cooperation Office The International Public Prosecution office arrested them in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

The statement added, "The plane carrying them took off yesterday at 7:15 pm Cairo time, and the Public Prosecution will question them after their arrival, as part of the resumption of investigations."

The Lebanese News Agency announced at the end of last month that the Internal Security Forces Directorate received on 27 August a letter from the Egyptian Interpol containing the names of seven Egyptian citizens who were in Lebanon accused of raping a girl. Three accused, they are: A.A. and the two brothers A.H. and H.H.

The Lebanese agency added that the defendants left hotels leaving the bags, in what appeared to be an attempt to escape from the Lebanese security forces, who raided their place and arrested them in the town of Fatqa.

Earlier, the Public Prosecution ordered the detention of 3 suspects in pretrial detention for a period of 4 days pending investigation, and released 3 others in the event that each of them paid a financial guarantee of 100,000 pounds ($ 6338), and another with a guarantee of his place of residence.

The prosecution also decided to bring the defendants to the forensic medicine office to determine the extent of their drug use, in addition to unloading messages on their phones.

It is reported that the accused "AT" is the son of a famous football coach.


Egyptian media sites reported that the investigation authorities renewed their contact with Interpol to arrest the son of a famous businessman, who is currently in London, because of information indicating his involvement in the case as well.
