Moustapha Adib throws in the towel.

Faced with a stalemate, the Lebanese Prime Minister announced on Saturday September 26 that he was giving up forming a government, as international pressure mounts, more than two weeks after the start of his attempts.

He had taken the head of the government after the resignation of Hassan Diab following the double explosion which devastated Beirut and its port in August.

"I apologize for not being able to continue the task of forming the government," Moustapha Adib said in a televised address, after lengthy negotiations to choose a government team approved by the various rival political forces in the country.
