Getting stuck with a ridge in your throat, even if it's usually a trivial incident, can easily ruin your life.

At the microphone of "Sans Rendez-vous", our health consultant, Doctor Jimmy Mohamed, explains how to react and especially how to try to get rid of it.

There is always one that escapes us.

The fear of swallowing a bone can spoil the tasting of the most delicious dish of fish.

Should you be worried if you ever swallow one?

And most importantly, how do you remove it if it gets stuck in your throat?

At the microphone of

Sans Rendez-vous

, the health program of Europe 1, doctor Jimmy Mohamed looks at this thorny problem.

Does swallowing a fish bone represent a risk for the digestive system?

“There is no risk of a ridge puncturing the stomach or digestive tract. However, if the ridge gets stuck in the throat, it can be problematic and should be removed.

My grandmother advised us to eat a little breadcrumbs, to get the ridge across, is that good advice or not?

Usually I don't like Grandma's remedies.

But this one was right!

The breadcrumbs, thanks to the starch, form a kind of plasticine, glue, which can absorb the edge and evacuate it.

You can drink, but don't rinse your mouth.

Above all, do not try to remove it with your fingers, especially if it is lodged deep in your throat.

You will induce a gag reflex and vomit, which should not help.

What if it is a small bone, like those found in poultry?

Small bones, like those of chicken, are more problematic, with a risk of going wrong.

If this happens to your child, for example, he may start to cough, feel embarrassed to catch his breath.

In these cases, do nothing and respect the child's cough, it is a defense mechanism.

On the other hand, if he has swallowed something a little bigger and he has really trouble breathing, he will have to do a Heimlich maneuver with abdominal compressions.

Train yourself in first aid, it's the best way to avoid tragedies! "
