The Hautes-Pyrénées department has been placed on an orange rain-flood alert, Météo France announced on Friday in its morning bulletin, reaching the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, on alert since Thursday.

Heavy rainfall is already affecting these two departments, Météo France alert.

“For the moment around 5 a.m., cumulative amounts are measured in the Pyrénées Atlantiques between 30 and 50 mm in the Basque Country, with 35 mm in Cambo-les-Bains and 38 mm in Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle, as well as 33 mm in Lourdes in the Hautes-Pyrénées ”, indicates the weather service on its website.

An early snowfall for the season

These "strong and frequent showers, sometimes stormy" should last "throughout the day of Friday" and give "by accumulation of significant amounts of precipitation in the form of rain in plains and low mountains".

At altitude, Météo France announces “a clear cooling from next night, with an early snow episode for the season (rain-snow limit dropping to 1500m, even 1300m under the heaviest showers.” According to forecasts, between 40 to 60 mm of rain are expected in the plains and 70 to 100 mm on the terrain. Be careful, these bad weather "is accompanied by very strong gusts of locally stormy wind, both on the coast and in the mountains".
