China News Service, Beijing, September 24 (Wang Yifei, Ran Wenjuan, Zhang Yuhuan) The 2020 China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Beijing-Hangzhou Dialogue will be held in Beijing on the 23rd.

The former chairman of the Zhejiang Writers Association and the famous writer Mai Jia said at the event that “The Grand Canal of China (hereinafter referred to as the Grand Canal) is like the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and Mount Tai. It is not only a landmark, but also a dimension of our national spirit.”

Stretching for nearly 3,200 kilometers and flowing for more than 2,500 years, the Grand Canal is the oldest, longest, and largest canal in the world.

In Mai Jia's view, no matter space, time, no matter where they live in China or where they come from, many people are infiltrated by the spirit of the Grand Canal.

He gave an example that the English translation of his work was a doctoral student from the United Kingdom, who studied Chinese pre-Qin culture.

"When we first met and exchanged, I asked him why he came to learn Chinese? He said that few people in the world dare to dream such a dream. He mentioned the Great Wall and the Grand Canal, saying that the Great Wall is a man-made sky moat. The country is protected by walls. The Grand Canal “folds” the whole of China, allowing people to become messengers and communicate with each other through the canal."

Maijia believes that the Grand Canal that has been flowing for thousands of years is still enjoyed by the world. It is not only a river, it has even become a spiritual code for the Chinese.

"The Grand Canal is like the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, and Mount Tai. It is not only a landmark, but also a dimension of our national spirit."

Referring to the heritage and protection of the Grand Canal culture, Mai Jia said, “Many people may have a feeling that the Grand Canal and the Great Wall have similar histories and are miraculous works, but the Great Wall’s reputation in the world may be much greater than that of the Grand Canal. This has to do with people’s propaganda on the Great Wall over the years and its relatively independent viewing."

He believes that the Grand Canal should increase its viewing.

With the advancement of the construction of the Grand Canal National Cultural Park, it will help the Grand Canal to "live" further, which is also a powerful measure to increase its viewing.

Speaking of "how to tell the world a good story about the Grand Canal in China," Mai Jia pointed out that artists should put more emotions into the Grand Canal and go to the side of the canal to write a number of works related to the Grand Canal.

This in itself is also an ordinary and practical passage for the Grand Canal to increase its viewing.

He also looks forward to writing more stories about the Grand Canal.

"This is the story of our nation. I hope not only we are watching it, but everyone in the world is watching it."

It is reported that the 2020 China Grand Canal Cultural Belt Beijing-Hangzhou Dialogue is co-sponsored by the Press Office of the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, the Press Office of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government, and China News Service; it will be hosted by China News Weekly, Beijing Radio and Television, and Beijing Yuexun Magazine. , China News Service Zhejiang Branch, China-Singapore Hyatt Media Group, Hangzhou Canal Group and other units; the World Canal Historical and Cultural City Cooperation Organization ("WCCO"), etc. provide support.
