Hebei Xingtai No. 3 Middle School responds to "requires girls to cut their hair short": Helps improve student performance
In response to a previous report by The Paper (www.thepaper.cn), parents reported that a senior high school in Hebei Xingtai required girls to cut their hair short or they could not enter the school. On September 24, a senior high school student from Hebei Xingtai No. 3 Middle School was involved. The staff sent a briefing on the matter to The Paper.
The report stated that the school’s specific requirements for hair cutting are “showing eyebrows before, ears on the side, and no collar at the back”. It has never issued any inhuman management policies such as “no entry into the school without cutting short” and “expulsion from school”.
The staff said that the school's gradual improvement in academic performance in recent years is inevitable with this regulation.
The report pointed out that in order to strengthen the education and management of students’ moral behavior and establish a normal education and teaching order, the high school section of Xingtai No. 3 Middle School has formulated the “Regulations for the Management of Standards for Students’ Daily Behaviors”, which is set out in the standard requirements for students’ appearance at school : Students should consciously wear clean and tidy clothes, no makeup, no jewelry, girls cut their hair, no accessories, and no signs of dyeing.
The notice pointed out that the specific requirements for girls' haircuts are: "showing eyebrows before, ears on the side, and no collar behind."
This standard has been implemented in Xingtai No. 3 Middle School for three years.
In addition, every year at the beginning of the enrollment of freshmen, the school will give each freshman a standard diagram of "short hair for boys and haircut for girls", so that students can compare and self-dress themselves in advance.
According to the report, the requirement has been implemented over the past three years, not only to avoid students' limited learning time due to the influence of clothing and makeup, but also to improve the spirit of the students as a whole, which is well received by parents.
For girls with special physiques and special reasons that are not suitable for short hair, the school asks parents to submit relevant certificates and apply to the grade level. The Economics, Political and Education Office can allow students to keep their original appearance.
