The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's Regenerative Medicine Subcommittee approved the clinical research planned by the research group of Professor Mikiya Fujieda of Kochi University.



According to the plan, eight children aged 1 to 6 years who have been diagnosed with pediatric cerebral palsy will be transplanted with cord blood taken from the umbilical cord of their siblings.



We plan to improve motor function by transplanting umbilical cord blood, which is rich in stem cells that are the source of various cells.



Clinical research using the cord blood of the child with cerebral palsy has already been conducted, but since there are many cases where the umbilical cord blood is not preserved, the research group has conducted clinical research using the cord blood of the cerebral palsy in the country. The research group is expected to expand the range of treatment by investigating the efficacy such as improvement of motor function as well as safety over a two-year period.
