Recently, the reporter walked into the "Pearl of East Tibet" in Changdu, Tibet to explore Baltic woodcarving skills.

Starting from Jiangda County, we arrived at Waichong Village after more than 3 hours of rugged mountain roads.

Waichong Village has a history of more than 300 years of woodcarving skills. Nowadays, most areas of Dege, Baiyu in Sichuan and Jiangda County in Tibet were once under the jurisdiction of Dege Tusi. Buddhism prevailed at that time, and wood carvings used to print Buddhist scriptures and patterns. The process has been developed unprecedentedly.

The local chieftain expended a lot of manpower and material resources, used more primitive plate-making methods, combined various disciplines, historical documents and classics of various sects, and carved tens of thousands of woodcut plates in temples.

More than 80% of the printing plates in the Dege Printing Institute, a national key cultural relics protection unit, are from here.

Waichongren is also known as the "originator" of Tibetan engraving.

Nowadays, this craft has driven the village to get rid of poverty and become rich. A printing board can be sold for more than 800 yuan.
