Monkey escape riot Boy arrested for cutting fence at zoo Chiba September 23, 21:32

In June, a 16-year-old boy was arrested for cutting the fence of a cage that was raising Japanese macaques at a zoo in Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture.

At the zoo, this effect caused a riot in which about 70 monkeys fled.

The arrested was a 16-year-old self-proclaimed high school boy living in Hanamigawa Ward, Chiba City.

According to police, it is suspected that the property was damaged by cutting the fence of the cage where Japanese macaques were bred at the Takagoyama Natural Zoo operated by Futtsu City in June.

When the police investigated after receiving a report from the city, the boy was identified from the images taken by the security cameras.

The police are investigating the details of the investigation, saying that they admitted that they had "cut with a tool".

At that time, at the zoo, the fence of the Japanese macaque breeding space collapsed due to the typhoon in September last year and a temporary cage was just created, and about 70 monkeys escaped due to the hole being made.

There was concern about crossbreeding

According to Futtsu City, there are alien species of rhesus monkeys inhabiting the area around Takagoyama Natural Zoo, and there was concern that crossing with the escaped Japanese macaques could affect the unique genes.

About 70 Japanese macaques that escaped this time have all been captured so far.

The Futtsu City Commerce and Tourism Division said, "I was relieved to be arrested because I was worried that the wire mesh might be broken again."
