Loggerhead turtle The third generation is born by artificial breeding Wakayama Kushimoto Town September 24, 2:36

At the aquarium in Kushimoto Town, Wakayama Prefecture, which is engaged in the breeding of loggerhead turtles, we succeeded in breeding the third generation in a human-reared environment.

According to the aquarium, it is the first time in the world.

The Kushimoto Marine Park Center Aquarium in Kushimoto Town is committed to protecting the endangered loggerhead turtles.

In 1995, eggs laid by parent turtles protected from the wild hatched and succeeded in breeding in the world's first human-reared environment.

The turtle born at this time later grew and laid eggs, and in 2010, the second generation was born in a breeding environment.

Ten years later, the second generation laid eggs, and about 50 turtles came out of the sand in the middle of this month.

According to the aquarium, it is the first time in the world that the third generation has succeeded in breeding in a human-reared environment.

The turtle born this time is the first protected wild turtle's great-grandson, with a shell length of about 4.5 cm and a weight of about 20 grams.

After being bred in the aquarium for a year, they will be released into the sea, except for a few left for breeding in the fourth generation.

Toru Yoshida, Deputy Director of the Kushimoto Marine Park Center Aquarium, said, "I would like to continue breeding and use it for research and protection of sea turtles."

The third generation turtle that was born will be open to the public from the 25th.
