One day after Fernando Simón spoke openly of the

"second wave"

, the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread in Spain at a rate of more than 10,000 new daily cases.

The report published this Tuesday by the Ministry of Health reveals

10,799 new confirmed cases

since Monday, a figure that maintains the trend of the latest official counts released.

After a weekend without updating the data, on Monday Health registered 31,428 positives since Friday, an average of more than 10,400 daily.

Of the 10,799 notified this Tuesday,

3,125 correspond to people who have

undergone

the PCR test

in the last 24 hours (the rest are positive

PCR tests

that were carried out in previous days, but whose result was made known between yesterday and today).

Most continue to be located in

Madrid

, which accounts for almost a third with

953 infections

.

The community more than doubles the second region with the most infected in the last day: Navarra, which registered 348. Andalusia and Aragon reported 335 and 308, respectively.

The Health count has also added

241 new deaths

to the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic.

With them the figure already rises to

30,904 deaths.

Of course, it is not a complete accounting, since deaths in residences or those that presented symptoms compatible with Covid-19, but in which a PCR test was not performed to confirm the virus infection, have not yet been counted.

With the death date of the last week, 468 deaths were counted

(compared to 311 on Monday).

Most of these correspond to Madrid, which accumulates 171. The Basque Country reports 65;

Andalusia, 47;

Castilla and León, 44;

Galicia, 26;

Valencia, 21;

La Rioja, 17;

Castilla La Mancha, 16;

Navarra, 13;

Extremadura, 12;

and Canarias, 11. Likewise, Aragón has eight deaths;

Cantabria, five;

Catalonia, four;

Balearic Islands, three;

Asturias and Murcia, two;

and Ceuta, one.

Only Melilla has not added any deaths in this period of time.

The number of hospitalized has doubled in the last month

Regarding

hospital admissions, the official report reported 2,357 in the last week

(on Monday, 2,293).

Most of them in Andalusia (472), Madrid (308) and Castilla y León (267).

According to Health, today there are 10,629 patients admitted because of the virus, 402 less than the previous day, when 11,031 were reported.

Despite this slight drop, it is more than double the number hospitalized a month ago.

Specifically, on August 21 (the 22 fell on a Saturday and, therefore, the figures were not updated), Health registered a total of 4,703 patients admitted at that time.

At that time there was already talk of the second wave and the official counts left worrying infection rates (that day, for example, 8,148 positives were detected) that heralded a complicated September.

However, despite the fact that the curve was already steep, the increase in hospitalized and deceased was still very slow.

Even today its growth is quite far from that of new infections, but the truth is that not only have admissions doubled,

the number of patients who have passed to the ICU has

also

almost tripled

: from 541 on August 21 to 1,348 on the day of today.

Of the 2,357 people hospitalized, 159 have been transferred to the ICU in the same period of time and 44 more since Monday.

In this way, the global number of patients who have required Intensive Care now reaches 13,112.

Regarding the care capacity of hospitals, the percentage of total beds occupied by those infected by the coronavirus is 9.6% throughout Spain.

But that percentage increases to 16.79% in ICU beds.

La Rioja

is the community that worries the most, since its

occupation of Intensive Care beds

by Covid patients already exceeds

50%

(56%, specifically).

In this section, Madrid (36%) and Aragon (32%) follow.

At the European level, Spain continues as

the second country in Europe with the most infections since the beginning of the pandemic

(682,267), only behind Russia (1,109,595).

Likewise, France and the United Kingdom follow, with 458,061 and 398,625, respectively.

In terms of the global death toll, the United Kingdom continues to lead the ranking and now reaches 41,788.

Italy, for its part, has 35,724 and France, 31,338.

Spain continues

to lead in cumulative incidence (AI) in the last 14 days

among the European countries that have registered the most infections.

Our country reports

287 positives for every 100,000 inhabitants

.

France is in second position, with 182 infected.

Belgium's AI is in third place, with 118 infected.
