The second wave is confirmed.

France has recorded 13,072 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours while the test positivity rate continues to climb, according to data released Wednesday by Public Health France.

The number of cases has therefore started to rise again from the 10,008 recorded on Tuesday, but without reaching the record of Saturday (13,498 positive cases).

The share of patients among those tested (positivity rate) continues to climb, to 6.2%, against 6.1% the day before.

In hospitals, 783 patients with the virus were newly admitted during the day, including 130 in intensive care.

New restrictions

In addition, 4,244 Covid patients have been hospitalized over the last seven days, the same figure as Tuesday, including 675 in intensive care, 24 more than the day before, said the public health service.

Since the start of the epidemic, at least 31,459 Covid-related deaths have been recorded in France, 43 more than the day before, including 20,888 in hospitals.

Faced with "a situation continues to deteriorate globally" the Minister of Health, Olivier VĂ©ran, announced new restrictions.

Eleven metropolises, including Paris, Lille and Lyon, are placed in “enhanced alert zones”.

Bars will have to close at 10 p.m., and gatherings of more than 10 people banned in public spaces.

Finally, in “maximum alert zones”, such as Aix-Marseille and Guadeloupe, bars and restaurants will be closed from Saturday for at least two weeks.
