[Well-off China] Heqing, Yunnan: Traditional silver-making skills "knock" the road to prosperity

[Background] The reporter recently saw in Heqing County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. When I walked in here, the sound of Ding Ding Dong Dong was endless. This is the local villagers making various silver handicrafts.

Since the Tang Dynasty, Heqing County has been engaged in the processing and production of silver handicrafts, which have been passed down from generation to generation until now, "small hammers have been hammered for a thousand years."

[Explanation] Hong Chune has been working in Wenbin Silverware Processing Workshop in Heqing County for more than six years. Now, with a monthly income of more than 3,000 yuan, she has changed the appearance of poor households who established files and registered cards many years ago and became a big family of silverware processing workshops. A member of, daily cleaning and polishing of silverware is her main job.

With the income guarantee of the workshop, Hong Chun'e raised her two children alone while supporting the elderly.

In the past, the family's income was not enough for even the most basic living. Now it can support living expenses and children's tuition.

[Explanation] In 1989, Li Wenbin, a proper young man, went to Sichuan to learn skills, and returned to Heqing's hometown many years later to establish Wenbin Silverware Processing Workshop.

[Explanation] Since 2014, Li Wenbin has successively invited a number of poor households who have established documents and registered cards to come to the silverware processing workshop, teach them silverware manufacturing related techniques, and drive them to increase their income and become rich.

The 22-year-old Wang Xuan is an orphan. He used to be frail and withdrawn. Li Wenshan used love and patience to integrate Wang Xuan into the collective learning arts. Now Wang Xuan, whose skills continue to improve and his salary increases, sees hope in life.

Learning crafts from Master Li has changed me a lot, it is also helpful to my life, and I have confidence in the future. Master Li and Madam are kind to me like parents.

[Explanation] There are many masters like Li Wenbin, Heqing, and they make full use of traditional skills to drive more people to increase their incomes.

In recent years, the development of the handicraft processing industry in Heqing County has laid a solid foundation for poverty alleviation. While carrying forward and expanding traditional craftsmanship, most villagers have steadily moved towards a well-off society.

[Concurrent] Li Wenbin, founder of Wenbin Workshop

I will continue to do this thing, this workshop accommodates fewer people, the next step I will be in another workshop, now our workshop is under construction, has basically taken shape, so I will continue, Let more people come to me to learn a craft and rely on their own hands to sustain themselves in the long run.

[Explanation] At the same time, Heqing County continues to improve its tourism image, and ethnic handicraft makers are also constantly pursuing innovation and quality, which has greatly improved the overall economic level of Heqing County. Ethnic silver handicraft production and tourism complement each other. The village has created many famous rural ethnic tourist attractions.
