The Algerian Ministry of Communication has decided to "no longer authorize" the private French television channel M6 to operate in Algeria, the day after the broadcast of a documentary on Hirak, a popular protest movement in that country.

In a press release published Monday evening September 21, the Ministry of Communication accuses this documentary, entitled

Algeria, the country of all revolts

, of "taking

a biased look at Hirak

", and of having been produced by a team provided with a "

false authorization to shoot

 ".

Since February 2019, the population has organized peaceful marches every Friday to demand a change of regime, the end of corruption and societal changes.

These marches have not been authorized since the start of the health crisis last March.

This is not the first time that a controversy has erupted after the broadcast of a report on Algeria.

Presented on Sunday evening on the French television channel M6 as part of the

Enquête Exclusive program

, this 75-minute report, filmed at times in "hidden camera" mode, exposes the testimonies of three young Algerians on the future of their country .

The report portrays a youth who dreams of putting an end to a breathless political system and who would like to lift the leaden cover that weighs on a still very traditional society.

Among the portraits seen in this report that of Noor, one of the most fashionable influencers in Algeria, young businesswoman, married and mother, who posts videos every day to succeed in her makeup, tutorials to tie her veil, but can hardly move alone.

On social networks, the YouTuber said she regretted participating in the report.

Algerian ministry promises to prosecute

According to the official statement, "

a Franco-Algerian journalist ensured the production of the film, with the help of an" Algerian fixer ", provided with a false authorization to shoot

 ".

The ministry promises to initiate proceedings and denounces a desire to tarnish the image of Algeria.

The broadcast last May by the public channel France 5 of another documentary on Algerian youth and Hirak,

Algeria my love

, by journalist and director Mustapha Kessous, triggered a diplomatic crisis between Algiers and Paris.
