The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, met with the media before attending the executive meeting on the 22nd, saying that Shi Juemin’s letter of resignation did not explain the reason, and he would not speculate on the reason for Shi Juemin’s resignation.

She emphasized that the Hong Kong National Security Law will not affect the rule of law and judicial independence in Hong Kong.

  Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor said that in accordance with the arrangements for Hong Kong courts in the "Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China", the Court of Final Appeal can continue to invite some other judges who belong to common law areas.

Despite the resignation of Judge Shi Juemin, there are still 13 judges from other common law jurisdictions in the Court of Final Appeal, and it is believed that new overseas judges will be appointed in the near future.
