The Emirates Airline Festival of Literature has opened registration for the 2021 school competitions, with the aim of giving students the opportunity to show their talents and refine their skills in writing stories and reciting poetry, and to compete with other schools to highlight their knowledge and information gleaned from a selection of books.

The festival adopted a new competition this year, the Montegrappa Writing Contest for writing letters, which celebrates the skill of writing by hand and the arts of calligraphy.

Students participating in the Oxford University House Story-Writing Competition will submit their participation in the framework of the festival theme in its next session, “Let's change the story”. The Readers' Cup is an opportunity for students to compete within school teams to demonstrate their understanding, knowledge, and information retention and reach the finals.

Creative outlets

For her part, Director of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, Dreams Blocky, said: “Due to the restrictions imposed on school students this year, the festival management is pleased to restore life to normal with a promising return to student competitions, which provide them with exceptional creative outlets through writing and speech, and overcoming a challenge Reading is usually an atmosphere of competition, which stimulates students to read and acquire knowledge ».

She added, "We are very excited this year to launch a new competition for writing by hand, and we hope that these competitions will give the participants benefit and enjoyment, and that they will continue their journey to encourage reading and instill love in the souls for life."

She pointed out that students can register via the festival's website, and final honoring ceremonies and award ceremonies will be held next March, as part of the month of reading activities.

Students of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries who are committed to full time can participate in the Readers' Cup competition according to two age groups: (up to the age of 11) and (from 12 to 16 years old).

The participating teams will read the books dedicated to the first round qualifiers, and the top 20 teams from each age group will qualify for the finals, to compete for first place and win the cup.

The festival announced that registration will close on 28 October.

And nearly 4000 students participated in the 2020 edition of the Readers Cup.

Oxford House

One of the most popular creative programs is the Oxford University House Storywriting Competition.

The competition targets students of schools, colleges and universities in the United Arab Emirates who are studying to participate in the competition, according to different age groups.

This competition received more than 3,500 entries in 2020. “There is no topic better suited to the current conditions than the competition topic scheduled for the next round (let's change the story), and it is sure to inspire promising storytellers, so we look forward to this competition. Another year of creativity, as students unleash their imagination, and surprise us all with their stories, ”noting that the deadline for submitting the Oxford University Story Writing Competition is the fourth of November.

The number of students in the last session of the "Poetry for All" competition reached 720 participants (in Arabic and English), and registration for the competition is open until October 14th.

Montegrappa to write letters

Participation in the Montegrappa Letter Writing Contest - available to students and adults in the UAE - focuses on good handwriting and writing, in addition to the content of the message, and the competition requires elementary and high school students to write a letter in beautiful writing to one of their favorite fictional characters.

The deadline for submitting entries is November 8th.
