What is correct attire at school?

Jean-Michel Blanquer spoke on this subject on Monday.

On RTL, the Minister of Education praised "the republican dress", in opposition to certain clothes deemed "indecent".

“School is not a place like any other,” said Jean-Michel Blanquer.

"You do not go to school as you go to the beach or to a nightclub […] Everyone can understand that we come to school dressed in a Republican way", continued the minister.

“Our children are under the pressure of many things, especially brands, fashion, the way others look at shoes and clothes… I hope there is a certain sobriety in the matter because there too it is an issue of social equality and then of protection for girls and boys, ”he added.

“Sexist” regulations

Regarding middle school and high school girls, Blanquer added: "I am very sensitive to the defense of young girls in school and very open to the discussion on what can be done to improve this protection," explained Jean-Michel Blanquer.

And for me it goes through the fact that clothing should not be a factor of either stigmatization or discrimination.

"

It must be said that the subject is sensitive: on September 14, college girls and high school girls launched a call to challenge the "correct dress" required by most regulations of institutions, on social networks.

They believe these regulations are sexist.

"Common sense is better than a long settlement in the matter", then declared the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron.
