[Explanation] On September 18, one of the 2020 Zhongguancun Forum Parallel Forums: Global Science, Life and Health Forum was held in Beijing.

Experts and scholars from many countries conducted exchanges on the theme of "Science and Technology Research and Development and Prevention of Major Epidemics" and shared their experience in fighting the "epidemic" and scientific research.

At the meeting, Zhong Nanshan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the prevention and control strategy of China's new crown pneumonia epidemic through a video.

There are ways to deal with a serious respiratory infection or sudden public health incident from all over the world.

One is to alleviate the condition, which has little impact on all aspects of the economy, because it has a very high replication index. Will this be out of control (spread)?

The other is strong suppression. Of course, strong suppression will cause some economic damage or even heavy losses.

The main guiding ideology of the Chinese government is the supremacy of life, and it has very resolutely adopted strong suppression measures.

At the same time, it is open and transparent to report to the country in real time the situation of all local diseases, early protection, early detection, early diagnosis and early isolation.

[Explanation] Wuhan was closed on January 23, and a shelter hospital was built in Wuhan in February... China's prevention and control measures quickly contained the spread of the epidemic.

But at the same time Nanshan also said that the epidemic may continue to exist or develop this winter and next spring.

This disease should continue to exist this winter and next spring, and it may develop at the same time.

Especially for the outbreaks in some areas, the use of immediate community-level joint prevention and control is actually still continuing.

All people need to carry out nucleic acid testing, follow up close contacts, and isolate nucleic acid-positive patients, even if they have no symptoms. This method seems to be effective.

[Explanation] At the meeting, the development of the new crown vaccine was also a hot topic.

The new crown vaccine developed by the team of Chen Wei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a researcher of the Academy of Military Sciences, is China's first new crown vaccine to enter the clinical practice and obtain patent rights.

As for the impact of virus mutations on the effectiveness of vaccines, which is widely concerned by the public, Chen Wei also answered on the spot.

[Concurrent] Chen Wei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, researcher of the Academy of Military Sciences

Currently, there are more than 100,000 virus sequences available on the global database, but not all sequences are of high quality, and more than 60,000 are available.

We made bioinformatics statistics, and caused vaccines including ours, including foreign vaccines, to use the S gene segment of the new coronavirus. There is only a relatively stable mutation in this segment, which is at the position of 614 amino acid (D614G).

The entire S (gene) has nearly 400 bases, more than 380 bases, only one base is mutated, its ratio is relatively small, and the position of it and the main RBD region (receptor binding domain) is also compared Far, so from speculation, the impact of (mutation) on the vaccine is minimal.

[Explanation] It is reported that currently 11 new crown vaccines in China have entered clinical trials, and 4 of them have entered phase III clinical trials.

Chen Wei said that at present, scientific researchers from various countries are stepping up the development of new crown vaccines with different ideas. Only by working together can we finally defeat the epidemic.

[Concurrent] Chen Wei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, researcher of the Academy of Military Sciences

There are so many scientists all over the world doing the same thing. Although everyone has their own ideas, I think it is a great opportunity to learn from each other.

Everyone works together. Only in this way can everyone move forward together and control the epidemic (in) the world.

Because as long as one country does not control it and the (epidemic) spreads, no country can survive alone.
