The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual event that recognizes outstanding works in four categories, such as manga and animation. This year, more than 3,500 works were submitted from 107 countries and regions.

On the 18th, a preview of the award-winning work exhibition was held, and among them, "Children of the Sea", which was selected as the grand prize in the animation category, is a work depicting the mystery of life on a magnificent scale, with hand-drawn pictures and CG. In combination, it vividly depicts sea creatures and characters.

In addition, "Robo Sapiens Prehistory", which was selected as the grand prize in the manga category, is characterized by simple line drawing, and depicts the relationship between the two in a world where robots and humans coexist from a unique perspective.

The author, Toranosuke Shimada, said, "There is no theme or message. I want you to read the work and cherish the emotions of crying and laughing."

This year, as a countermeasure against the infection of the new coronavirus, there is a viewing corner where the sensor detects the movement of the hand and turns the page without directly touching the manga, and the venue is photographed for people who can not visit directly. It means that the VR video will be delivered on a special site.

This event will be held from the 19th to the 27th of this month at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Koto-ku, Tokyo.
