In July, a large amount of heavy oil spilled into the sea when the Panama-registered cargo ship "WAKASHIO" chartered by Japanese shipping giant Mitsui O.S.K. Lines ran aground off the coast of Mauritius, causing great damage to the coast and the environment. I did.



The Japan Transport Safety Board has decided to dispatch an investigation team of four members and accident investigators to the site, and a greeting was given by the investigation team at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on the 18th.



This is the first time that the Japan Transport Safety Board has dispatched an accident investigator in an accident caused by a foreign vessel in a foreign territorial waters, and the investigation will be conducted in cooperation with the authorities of both Mauritius and Panama.



The study team will leave Japan on the 20th, and will hear from the crew about the time of the accident and investigate the condition of the cargo hull submerged in the sea in about two weeks.
