Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, hospitalized Monday in Paris, returned to his home.

The former president, aged 94, "left the Georges-Pompidou hospital today and returned to his home," his cabinet announced on Thursday.

"He is doing well" and "is not the subject of special surveillance", he added.

The former head of state (1974-1981), who celebrated his 94th birthday on February 2, was hospitalized on Monday at the Georges Pompidou hospital, where "a slight infection in the lungs" had been diagnosed.

Doctors had ruled out a coronavirus infection, according to his office, which then spoke of a treatment of a few days.

Heard by investigators in the coming weeks

Youngest president of the Fifth Republic when he was elected in 1974, Valéry Giscard d'Estaing had made one of his last public appearances on September 30, 2019 during the funeral in Paris, another President of the Republic, Jacques Chirac, who was its Prime Minister from 1974 to 1976.

He was also talked about in May, targeted by a sexual assault investigation after a complaint from a German journalist.

The latter accused him of having touched her buttocks during an interview more than one earlier.

The former president must be heard by investigators in the coming weeks.
