The Rouen Food Bank (Seine-Maritime) recently launched a major registration campaign for students.

Containment and the coronavirus crisis have greatly precarioused this category of the population, reports

Paris-Normandy.

The figures on the subject were already not glorious before the pandemic: 20% of 18-24 year olds lived below the poverty line in France and 65% regularly skipped a meal.

But the health crisis has made the situation worse.

"With the coronavirus, student jobs have become scarce," explains the president of the Food Bank.

“It was the students who drank the most.

68 tonnes of products distributed in 2019

Normally suspended during the summer, meal distributions were maintained in July and August this year, especially for foreign students who could not return home.

The Food Bank recalls that below a certain level of resources, calculated by the organization, students can register and benefit from free meals.

In 2019, no less than 68 tonnes of food were distributed to 953 students registered with the Rouen Food Bank.

The products come from supermarkets, donations from individuals or industry, or are provided by the State via the fund to help the poor.
