A 24-year-old man in Hong Kong was arrested for allegedly taking pictures of police officers’ weddings and “starting up” police officers’ information on the Internet

[Global Network Report] On September 16, the Hong Kong police arrested a man for "disclosing personal information obtained without the consent of the data user". He was suspected of disclosing the personal information of police officers on the Internet in June this year.

According to Hong Kong’s “Sing Tao” report, Chief Inspector Zhou Zhencai of the Crime Squad of the West Kowloon Region of the Hong Kong Police said that a police officer and his wife had a wedding in a hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui on June 7 this year. They learned from relatives and friends after the wedding. Two photos of the wedding were posted on the online discussion area, and the police officers’ personal information including name, ID number, police officer number, and position were disclosed.

According to the report, the police stated that the victim was frightened and someone posted a threatening message threatening to sexually assault the bride.

After investigation, the Police Crime Squad identified a 24-year-old man involved in the case and arrested him in Wong Tai Sin on the 16th. The man was reported as a student.

The Hong Kong police said that the arrested man was a photography assistant for the wedding photography team. The investigation found that someone used his position to obtain police information during the wedding and used his personal mobile phone to secretly take pictures of the victim and put it online together with threatening words.

The report mentioned that the police seized the computer and the clothes of the arrested person during the operation.

The police stated that since June last year, the information of police officers and their family members was illegally disclosed. In October last year, the High Court banned the disclosure of the information of police officers and their family members. The injunction is still in effect and the police will never condone illegal and malicious behavior.
