In 2019, Kulturnyheterna was able to reveal extensive plagiarism in Sweden's largest true crime podcast, Swedish Murder Stories, as well as in a book with the same title that was based on the content of the podcast.

After the revelations, the publisher withdrew the book, and podcasts containing plagiarism were deleted.

But the author whose texts were copied without permission, Anders Svensson, has still not received any compensation.

Neither the podcaster nor the many actors who published the content.

- I have reported them to the police because it was the only way to move on because no one wanted to agree with me, says Anders Svensson.

He has reported to the police all the actors he considers responsible for the publications, for copyright infringement.

This is the person who ran the podcast Swedish Murder Stories and wrote the book with the same title, the person's co-author and the publishers Pagina and Bookmark who published the book.

Last but not least, Anders Svensson has reported the radio giant Bauer Media to the police, who provided the podcast on his platform Radioplay.

The podcast had more than 100,000 listens a week and was the largest of its kind in Sweden.

- I have a hard time understanding Bauer Media's actions.

It's a huge company and they know they made a mistake because they deleted sections.

Bauer Media: Not our responsibility

Anders Svensson has demanded the radio giant SEK 60,000 for the material, but has not received compensation or an answer.

Bauer Media writes in an email to Kulturnyheterna that they attach great importance to content distributed via their platform following laws and ethical rules.

At the same time, Bauer Media disclaims responsibility for the content of podcasts they publish on their platform.

“Each podcast company and podcast creator is responsible for the content of the podcasts that are published.

This is also made clear in the agreement between Bauer Media and the podcast company. ”

The issue of liability around plagiarism was raised last spring, when Mordpodden - another of Bauer Media's podcasts - was convicted of copyright infringement after using parts of a book for one of its sections.

Publisher: Not our responsibility

Kulturnyheterna has searched for the publisher Pagina without success.

The publisher Bookmark writes that:

"Bookmark did not acquire all of Pagina's rights (approximately 500 titles) until September 1, 2019, and returned these current rights to the authors the same day we received information about plagiarism later in September."

The person who made the podcast has since the revelation sold it on, left the industry and today declines an interview.

The co-author of the book denies responsibility for the plagiarism, and says that he only worked with the book stylistically.
