In a message addressed to all principals of public high schools, the Brittany region recommends removing water jugs in the canteens of establishments.

Disclosed by Ouest-France, the information can make you smile as it attacks one of the symbols of collective catering.

But it turns out to be very serious.

Contacted, the Brittany region confirms "having changed its recommendations regarding the daily management of catering" to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

In fact, the regional council advises not to resort to water fountains and self-service pitchers on tables "to avoid a point of contact".

In order not to deprive high school students of water, they are advised to come with a pre-filled gourd.

The region promises to provide individual bottles for those who do not have them.

"These are the recommendations that were sent to us by the Ministry of National Education", we explain to the region.

In its latest bulletin, the ministry mentions an "organization of the water service" which may include "the use of bottles or handling by an adult respecting hand hygiene".

“Admittedly, young people wash their hands with hydroalcoholic gel when entering the cafeteria and start by taking bread and cutlery, but when they use the water, they have started to eat and no longer necessarily have clean hands and no longer wear masks, hence an increased risk, ”explains the region.

The decanters had already disappeared from many canteens at the time of deconfinement

Will decanters and pitchers disappear from the 115 Breton public high schools?

Not so sure.

In fact, several principals have reported difficulties, particularly financial for the purchase of bottled water.

The region specifies that each school principal is free to follow the established protocol or to adapt it according to the configuration of his school.

Carafes and pitchers of water had already disappeared from many canteens at the time of deconfinement and the appearance of meal trays served cold.

Since the start of the school year, a good number of establishments had reintroduced them, by adapting the protocol.

In the canteens of the city of Rennes, it is the supervising adult who, after disinfecting the hands, fills the pitchers and serves the children.

The decanters are cleaned at the end of service.

No, the Covid-19 has not yet had the skin of the famous metal pitcher.
