The state of health emergency will be lifted in Mayotte and Guyana, due to a more favorable development in the health situation, government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced on Wednesday after the Council of Ministers.

"Health developments in these territories make it possible to end the state of emergency as of today, and Mayotte and Guyana to return to the transitional regime, that is to say the same regime as the rest of the country, ”he said.

The law organizing the exit from the state of health emergency in France is in force for the period from July 11 to October 30, but until then it excluded the departments of Guyana and Mayotte, which had been particularly affected in May and June by the Covid-19.

The state of health emergency had been extended until October 31 in these two territories.

Relative emergency exit

The law organizing the exit from the state of health emergency provides for possible restrictions on the movement of people or vehicles as well as access to public transport where the virus is active.

It also makes it possible to supervise gatherings, close establishments or impose virological tests on people arriving or leaving the territory.

Among the overseas territories, only Guyana and Mayotte have experienced a relative drop in the number of infected people since the end of August.

If Mayotte is in a "moderate vulnerability zone", Guyana remains in "high vulnerability zone" according to the Public Health France map of September 15.

40 deaths in Mayotte, 64 in Guyana

The director of the ARS of Mayotte, Dominique Voynet, had indicated at the end of August that she feared a second wave in this territory in need of doctors, where 77% of the population lives below the poverty line.

But Monday, she clarified on Mayotte the 1st that there was "no reason to be alarmist", with an incidence "remained below 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants".

According to the ARS, 3,301 cases of the virus have been confirmed since the start of the epidemic in Mayotte, and 40 deaths recorded.

Only four people are currently hospitalized.

Guyana, for its part, has 9,578 positive cases, 64 deaths, and 22 hospitalized patients, according to the latest figures from the ARS on Tuesday.
