A name found in New York

Bilal Hassani says he has had a career plan in mind since he was 9, but the name of his second album has never been set in stone.

The idea of

Against evening

came to him during a vacation with friends.

"In January 2020, I went to New York", he says before specifying that the anecdote will not please his mother.

"I was in the bathroom in the hotel room with two friends, smoking a cigarette in the window, which is forbidden. We wondered what I was going to call the album and we decided. 'is said' Against evening, that sounds phew '. "

A title which therefore refers to the bathroom, a privileged place for party back evenings in an apartment (tied with the kitchen).

A disc not yet completed

We have known for a week:

Against evening

will be released on November 6.

However, Bilal Hassani recognizes that less than two months of this release, his new baby is not yet fully finalized.

"We're giving it back, I'm afraid! But this Friday we will definitely give it back, it's in its small suitcase and it's arriving at its destination," the singer laughs.

"Without saying too much because personal things happened, the creation of this album was a real challenge."

A more worked recording

The singer's first tour taught him, by his own admission, to protect and discover more of his voice.

Elements that he decided to take advantage of during the recording of his second disc, on which he explains having spent more time than on

Kingdom

.

"We worked slower, meaning I would finish recording the songs, I would listen to them. I would fire some of them. And the four or five songs that I liked a lot, we would re-record them. . We made a thousand versions of each song and kept the best, ”he explains.

"For example,

Tom

was recorded three times and, with the director Matthieu Mendès, we really worked in the detail of the voice and the harmonies. We really did the vocal production, in addition to the instrumental production."

Crying out of the studio

This longer, slower, more physical recording could have been mentally taxing.

But the work of the arrangements, in particular the use of synths and very 80's guitar solos, delighted Bilal Hassani.

“What I'm going to say is going to sound very dramatic, but I have cried with joy a few times when I got home from the studio sessions,” he says.

"I didn't expect to make songs that worked so well, that good and love them so much. There were a lot of emotions."

Titles written for a long time

Bilal Hassani explains that he worked very early on writing

Against Evening.

"The summer of 2019 was not at all a summer of rest for me, because I was working on the re-release of

Kingdom

, I was preparing the tour and at the same time I was starting to imagine this second album", recalls the singer.

At this time, he wrote songs for the second version of his debut album.

"I saw titles really stand out and I was like, 'These I keep aside for later.'

But what was nice is that I never set myself a date for this record ", indicates the one whose new album will be available on November 6th.
