Largely spared by the coronavirus in the spring, the Ariège department is worried.

The prefect Chantal Mauchet launched this Wednesday in the early evening "a warning message" to the entire population, a little more than 150,000 people.

Local health authorities have indeed observed "an increase in reported cases": more than 22 positive cases and 90 contact cases on Wednesday alone.

The Montgailhard school group, near Foix, will be closed until Monday, after the discovery of a positive case and several contact cases.

The prefect calls on the people of Ariège to "limit the risk of contamination by scrupulously respecting health instructions, and by limiting gatherings and family celebrations".

Other departments of the former Midi-Pyrenees region, in particular Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne and Gers, have deplored in recent days an increase in the circulation of the virus.
