  • The town of Mimet, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, is one of the towns designated by the prefect as particularly exposed to the coronavirus.

  • Consequently, wearing a mask is compulsory.

  • The catch?

Its mayor has not been notified of any case of Covid-19 in his town.

How can a small town in Bouches-du-Rhône be forced to wear a mask on its territory when the authorities have not informed its mayor of any case of coronavirus?

This is the question asked by Georges Cristiani, the mayor of Mimet, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

The city councilor discovered that his municipality was among the municipalities of the department said to be at risk, where the Covid-19 circulates the most.

On Monday, the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône notably imposed the mask from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. in these 27 municipalities where the incidence rate of the disease exceeds the alert threshold of 100 per 100,000.

"No information transmitted"

But for the mayor of Mimet, Georges Cristiani, it is "a shock because no information has ever been sent to me by the Regional Health Agency (ARS)".

“No case has been declared in the schools of the town, neither at the nursery nor at the Mimet day center.

Likewise, to date, no positive Covid case is to be deplored at the nursing home in my town, ”he explains in a press release.

And the mayor of this town of about 4,500 inhabitants to denounce "the inertia of the ARS", the regional health agency.

"How can the ARS, which is conspicuous by its absence in our communes, lead the Prefect to decide that 92 communes would be" healthy "and 27 communes" contaminated "and plunged into growing anxiety?

", he asks.

For him, the hardening of health measures, published "without having previously informed the mayors of the municipalities concerned", has the "dramatic consequence of putting the population of these municipalities in turmoil and it is still up to the mayors to manage the ambient panic" .
