The first major role-playing game "Dragons and Demons" was released in Sweden in 1982. Fredrik Malmgren, who started the gaming company Target games, bought the rights to what would become a classic.

Michael Petersén and Gunilla Jonson created the next successful game, Mutant, for the subsidiary Äventyrsspel.

Just over ten years later, the couple created the game Cult, which was seen as innovative.

"Swedish gaming companies at the forefront"

In the late 90s, role-playing games began to disappear more and more and then re-emerged in the mid-2010s and now the Swedish games are increasing in popularity.

- The role-playing games have received a real boost, says Orvar Säfström and continues:

- Swedish gaming companies are at the forefront.

Every other game that is praised is a Swedish game.

A number of artists and writers have been inspired by Swedish role-playing games, including Simon Stålenhag.

In recent years, he has created art books based on role-playing games.

His most famous book "From the Warning Hole" has now become an American television series.
