On Friday, Prime Minister Jean Castex pointed to the metropolis of Bordeaux, where he considers the situation worrying due to the circulation of the virus which is accelerating.

20 Minutes

takes stock of the situation.

Where are we with the circulation of the virus?

According to the latest point of the ARS last Friday, in one month the positivity rate went from 1.6% to 5.2% in New Aquitaine.

The number of cases has therefore increased sharply and this is not only linked to an increase in the number of screenings carried out: "the positivity rate is an excellent surveillance indicator to judge the real circulation of the virus" indicates the ARS.

If this varies from 1.8% in Creuse to 8.3% in Gironde, they are all increasing in all departments, especially for the departments of Vienne (4.5%), Landes (3.5 %) and Dordogne (2.5%).

In Gironde, a department classified as red since the end of August, the incidence rate has now reached 159 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, making it the most affected department in the region, and one of the most affected departments. reached from France.

Due to the unfavorable development of several indicators, especially on the Basque coast, the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques has also moved into an “active traffic zone” (ZCA), known as “red zone”, this weekend.

The incidence rate in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques has crossed the bar of 50 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants over 7 days (57.2 to 12 September).

What is the situation in hospitals?

The director of the Bordeaux University Hospital Yann Bubien estimates "that all the signals are red" ... The number of hospitalizations for Covid-19 in New Aquitaine has increased from 85 to August 31 (including 13 in intensive care), to 147 to 8 September (including 33 in intensive care).

"This trend particularly impacts the Bordeaux University Hospital (68 hospitalizations on September 9, including 21 in intensive care), but potentially will concern other health establishments in the region if the epidemic continues to spread at this high rate", warns again the ARS.

What measures have been taken?

In the red departments, such as the Gironde and since this weekend the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the prefects have been granted additional powers to fight against the spread of the virus.

This can go as far as bans on movement, gatherings, and closures at certain times of establishments open to the public.

In Bordeaux, it has been decided for the moment to make it compulsory to wear a mask (for over 11s) throughout the city center, in a perimeter located between the courts of the Marne, Albret, Verdun, of Martinique and the quays).

In the 28 municipalities of the metropolis, wearing a mask is also compulsory in the covered markets and less than 50 m from schools from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The capacity of the stadiums is therefore limited, which explains why for the moment no exemption to the 5,000 spectator capacity can be granted during the Girondins de Bordeaux and UBB matches.

New measures could be announced on Monday, especially in Gironde.

The Prefect and the municipality are in particular in discussion with the Union of Trades and Hospitality Industries (UMIH) to improve compliance with health rules in cafes and restaurants, and the Prefect has expressed her intention to target " bad players ”.

Where are we in the schools?

Regarding the situation in schools, looked at closely since the start of the school year, the Bordeaux Academy on September 11 identified seven closed establishments in the territory of the former Aquitaine (none in Gironde), out of 3,204 schools and establishments in the academy, as well as about twenty classes (including 16 in Gironde).
